Finswimming technique

The finswimming technique is very simple symetric an effective motion. The swimmer has arms placed together in front of his body  attempt to minimise frontal resistance. The head is placed between arms and swimmer breathes with a snorkel carried in frontal position.

Hydrodynamic position

The swimmer progresses along an undulating trajection. The arms, trunk and legs perform oscillatory motions along a vertical direction. The amplitude of these oscillations is minimal for the arms and maximal for the legs. In the modern technique of monofin swimming a certain stability and rigidity of the upper part of the body is sought after as it guarantees a better penetration in the water and minimizes the external resistance. His movements are pointing out the undulations of the dolphin. There is no fundamental difference between the swimming technique for surface and immersion events.

   Finswimmers reach speeds about 3,5 m / s.
In immersion disciplines swimmer use a tank with compressed air. This tank is pushed in front of the swimmer. (You can view pictures.)
